Need help with Jean Louis/Carol Brent Faux Persian Lamb(?) Coat

I am trying to date and get info on a coat that I have been calling faux Persian Lamb. I put it on the Vintage Clothing Board on ebay for help and one of the members sent me over here to you for help. There seemed to be some question on there about whether I am calling it the right thing. Also, they were very familiar with both Jean Louis and Carol Brent, but confused by them both having labels on the same coat. I know little to nothing about vintage clothing myself, but would like to sell the coat. I bought it at a garage sale back in the 80's and have had it just hanging in the closet since. I wore it once, but it is a very heavy coat and the weather is really too mild where I live for it. I just
thought it was so beautiful when I found it that I had to buy it.
Thanks so very much in advance for any help you can give me. I will attempt to post the pics (which I will do better with when I list it!) It has been dark & rainy here & hard to get good pics.

Carol Brent was the house label for Montgomery Ward. That said, the 'made in france' is not what I'd expect....I'm guessing this was a premium line sold thru Wards, like Mary Quant's label at Penney's--tho I think the Quants may have been US made...

I'd guess the coat was designed by "Jean Louis" and manufactured for the Carol Brent label in France (either by the Jean Louis label or farmed out to another maker once it was designed).

I think you're totally accurate in calling it faux Persian lamb--I think most people would use the term "faux Persian curly lamb." The tight curls are what identifies it as Persian lamb; not sure why you were told you weren't using the right terminology.

Hi, rusecure! Thanks for posting this! (It was I who nudged her to show us over here.)

I was really intrigued by the affiliation of Jean Louis and Montgomery Ward. It baffled me. Very pleased to see some explanation here.

That's a heck of a lot of visual information in one image, but rusecure, maybe you could also post your first pic on the thread titled "*PUBLIC Label Image Thread." I know VFG doesn't have that charming Jean Louis label on its label resource, and it would be good to have. And it might be missed by the label monitors on this thread.

And yes, I totally second the "faux curly lamb," "faux Persian lamb," "faux Astrakhan" direction.
