Need help with tweed jacket

Hello,

I acquired this Harris Tweed jacket and was hoping someone can help with dating. I know the label is from 1975-1985 according to the VFG label resource. There is also a second label which reads Concord Clothing Company which was in existence between 1936-1990 so that doesn't help with determining if it is from the 70s or 80s.

I also have another question and the experts here would probably cringe but... is this a women's or men's jacket? It is on a female mannequin since that's the only kind I have but the more I look at it, the more I think it is for men.

Thank you.

Victoria, firstly, your jacket is for a man - it buttons left over right. A ladies jacket buttons the other way.

Secondly, the style is classic and a little hard to date, especially as the label says it's '75 to '85 which is a time of classic fashion for these sort of styles. Going on the top stitched lapel of a certain width though, I suspect it's at the lower end of this scale, mid to late '70s.

Have you looked into the inside pocket to see if there is a tailor's label with a date there?

If you get in touch with the Harris Tweed firm they may be able to help you out to be more exact about the dating...the big clue is that "Ultra" Tailored in the USA reference.

They are actually going to open an archive site soon on their site. That should be most helpful for all of us who love Harris tweed!

here is what it states on their site.
