Need Info about Black Formal Gown

I bought this dress this afternoon at Salvation Army for $1.50! I didn't notice that 2 of the gems were missing from the back buttons until I got home though.

The brand is Hoot Owl.

The tag reads:

ALGWU logo -- red, blue, & white with AFL-CIO
100 % Polyester
Machine Wash Warm
Drip Dry
Warm Iron If Needed
Do Not Wring or Twist
Do Not Bleach
RN 24743
Made in U.S.A

Size 5

Can anyone give me any info about it? Possible value?

Pretty dress. The red, white and blue union tag means that your dress is no older than 1974, so I would imagine it right about that time period as the style seems about right for that general time period.

Thanks, from my limited research, I figured 70s as well. It is a pretty, classic, timeless dress.

I would date this to about 1976--I made a dress very much like it, only with long sleeves, that year to wear to a wedding. The pattern was from that year's new ones, and the bodice was similarly constructed. I did not use that type of button, but as I recall, the pattern was shown with very similar buttons down the front of the bodice.

It is a sleek, classic style that looks great "on"!
