Spent all morning ironing this thing. Hoping to get listed for the Red, White & Blue sale. It is not lined so it is the perfect summer outfit. It irons like a cotton but has a nubby weave like shantung. It has a metal size zipper and shoulder pads in the jacket (not dress). One side seam pocket. Looks like it has never been worn. Belt says 10 on underside but it is fitting my size 6/8 manni perfectly.
40s or 50s? Any keywords helpful, too. :D

That is, without a doubt, one of the most gorgeous dresses I have ever seen! The design is so simple and understated but wow, what a statement it makes.

The flare of the skirt and the design of the bolero are making me say mid 1950s. I could be wrong but I believe the evening wear of the 40s leaned towards full length dresses - while in the mid 50s the length of evening wear was raised and both long and short evening dresses became popular. The bolero reminds me of Davidow.

Can someone else add to or correct my thoughts?

Linda, it is so divine. Purely and simply divine.

I think the saphire color is just wonderful. I have a dress that is white with that color pattern and it is just flattering on just about anyone.

I am going to agree with Maureen and say the fullness of the skirt is 50s and the label looks early, so i would vote for 1953. (is that a random guess enough??)

I would say mid 50s as well. Are those rhinestone baubles on the bodice? You could use rhinestone as keyword perhaps. Skirt looks very swingy. You might use swing as a keyword.

Never thought about swing for this dress, but what they hey?? It's going on auction tonight, right or wrong! Thanks so much!!!

Wow! Gosh, I wish my DDs would hurry up and mature into vintage interest. You'd think that Carrie (SATC) would've done it for them. So many gorgeous things they could wear.

Brenda

Brenda, maybe you could get them interested with this dress? LOL

I think I have seen one similar to this in a recent fashion magazine. Wish I could remember where so I could scan it.:duh:

I think if we could show the younger girls comparisons of how designers just borrow from the fashions of yesteryear, then maybe we could get them more interested in wearing vintage and actually saving a buck or two.

Anyway, it is listed!

If this doesn't sell, it will go in the mall before the 4th. It would be perfect for the Star Spangled promotion.
