I cannot find much information on J (Maybe T) Hodgkinson Ltd
But I do know Pall Mall Place on St James's Street. It is located in UK. The previous owner is one of Ballet West Founders. John Hart was actually from UK.

T. Hodgkinson Ltd was a gentleman's outfitters. The National Archives hold their documents dating between 1909-1977:
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/c/F176064 This may or may not be the span of years the company was active.

The National Trust appear to have a large amount of unsold stock by them from the early 20thC showing they primarily made shirts, collars and ties:

Two addresses can be seen on their labels, 112 Jermyn Street, and Pall Mall Place. I am not sure which was earlier at the moment. By 1956 the company had been granted the Royal Warrant for HRH The Duke of Edinburgh (as listed in The Gazette), your garment probably pre-dates this as it does not feature the warrant on the label, while not required to show it most companies wouldn't lose a chance to do so.

I think your dressing gown dates from the 1940s or 50's by the style of the label and presence of shoulder pads.

Fascinating information! Thank you for finding all these information.
Well, John Hart (linked his wiki) did serve in the military in 1942-46. The Pall Mall also included the Athenaeum, the Travellers Club, the Army and Navy Club, the Reform Club, the United Service Club, the Oxford and Cambridge Club and the Royal Automobile Club. Unless he was there for his ballet dancing?

I think what Melanie is saying, Jenny, is that Pall Mall Place is the address of the outfitters T. Hodgkinson at the time of manufacture. I agree with a '40s date and the fabric reads like a jacquard weave, rather than satin which is a plain weave. These are usually rayon in the '40s I find.

I am not sure if Pall Mall Place was outfitters T. Hodgkinson's address at the time.

I agree with you, Nicole. I did a little more research after my last post. The fabric seems to be rayon not satin silk.

Yes Pall Mall Place was the address of T.Hodgkinson at the time this robe was made. It is an upmarket area and there are still tailors there today.

FWIW Pall Mall Place is not the same as Pall Mall. Pall Mall Place is a passageway and courtyard that runs between Pall Mall and King's Street. "St James's" on the label refers to this area of London (which is also the area where St James's Street is, but Pall Mall Place is not on St James's Street). Pall Mall Place used to be called King's Place - but I don't know when it was renamed.

Pall Mall Place was badly hit in an air raid in 1944.

Sorry that's partly my fault for not referring to the address in full, even though I knew it wasn't Pall Mall proper. I've edited my previous references to avoid any further confusion.

I didn't know Pall Mall Place was one of the areas hit but I do wonder if that was the cause for the change of address. I found a notice in The Gazette from 1944 which appears to say they had to start again from scratch:

Just found these shirts from 1900, also labelled Pall Mall Place St. James' so this appears to be the earlier address:
