Need your help with this embroidered robe

Thinking this looks vaguely Moroccan (?) but I'm not sure what it really is - it has belt loops but no belt - although I took some pics of it with a macrame one as well as a length of rope (very Friar Tuck).

It is very large, almost certainly a man's robe,

Would you sell it as a robe? A coat? I was hoping it would appeal to the hippie/boho/ethnic contingent but I'm having second thoughts... It's lightweight wool (or a wool blend) twill.

Actually any thoughts you might have on this will be welcome. Thanks!

I think as a "smoking robe/smoking jacket" not that it was for smoking but it is a searched term and it has a very luxe vibe.

On your girl, it looks very caftan-ish without the belt.

You could market it as unisex and cross list in men's and ladies.

Yeah, I'd go with Chris' suggestions - could definitely be a little 'opium boudoir' (to break out the rampant Orientalism).

Caftan is probably the most important word, but perhaps throw in 'Arab' for good measure, to convey that Levant-to-Maghreb possible source area.

With the belt I imagine it looks *very* lounging robe-ish.

It would look good over contrasting palazzo or harem pants, no?

I kind of disagree... a little - but it's only a matter of personal preference.

I meant 'arab' as a way of truly indicating what kind of style it seemed to be (as opposed to the romantic keyword side).

I search 'Arabian Nights' in the clothing section and I've bought a couple of items with it in the title at one bid and low-page-views...

Although since this might appeal to people wanting a costume, it might actually suit it.

Maybe if you stick with your original impression and use 'Moroccan' you'll get more people searching for the hippie-trail type clothing, who might want this.

Oh the indecision!

I wasn't aware that people searched "Arab". I always thought "Arabic" or "Arabian". I meant more of "Arabian Nights" as the picture to paint about it. the image to create. I guess I am just not too in tune with it...

Oh no, I know what you mean, Chris - and none of them are particularly widespread as keywords anyway.

'Arabic' you tend to find more in things talking about the script or books and so on.
'Arabian' always makes me want to look for amazing steeds-of-the-desert (but I'm sure it get used for other things).
'Arab' is what I've seen used to describe traditional hijab garments, so may or may not work as a suitable draw...

For the same vibe, I've seen people use 'Genie of the Lamp', 'Aladdin' (various spellings), 'Sheherazade (ditto) and 'Sinbad'.

This strikes me as less of a novelty item, so I'm not really sure what would work best.
I wish I actually had some useful detailed knowledge and could tell where it was from!
