A good friend of mine found what has to be her find of a lifetime--one of the old 1967 Yellow Pages dresses.

:wow22:

She's not planning on keeping it now that she knows what she has.

While her plan was to ebay it, this is more of a museum type piece from what I understand.

What would any of you 'seasoned' vintage experts do with it?

There was one on Antiques Roadshow that was appraised at between $1600-2200...

Thanks for all your help!

PS...she found it in a thrift store in Arkansas...and paid...25c for it.

The yellow pages dress is from 1968 and was advertised in various magazines in the fall of 1968, including the October 1968 issue of Parade magazine. It's technically a disposable dress nbot a paper dress because its made of Reemay, a spun bonded polyester, rather than wood pulp paper.

It shouldn't be worn because these dresses were designed for one time use, but a large number of them have survived, usually in an unworn state, so although they are desirable for collectors they aren't really that rare. The one on the antiques roadshow was vastly over-evaluated. The yellow pages dress sells on eBay quite regularly for between $60 and $200 dollars depending upon condition. They were selling for more 5 years ago (about double) but the market softened for 1960s paper and disposable dresses when the economy took a downturn.

I paid $75.00 for the first Yellow Pages paper dress I bought back in about 1990 at a vintage clothing sale in New England. I found another one on eBay for $45 in about 2000, but then they started going up dramatically in value (like house prices) before settling back down. The only ones that ever got up into the thousands were the Campbell's Souper dress (one sold for $7,000 in about 1998 but not one has gotten even close to that price since then, and they regularly sell in the $200 - $500 range) and the Big Ones of '68, which is a Warhol-like screen print of Hollywood faces, and it is quite rare and usually gets in the $1200 - $2500 range.
