Nervous.... am I right? 40s?

Hey everyone,

Ok, my dates haven't been too great so far, so am I right in thinking 40s/50s on this one?
It's SUPER fragile (the front had to be repaired) and very shiny & think material. Also, what's the way the fabric drapes on the bodice called?

Also, it was missing it's belt, was I wrong to picture it with a black belt? Oh, and the first pic, it's with a matching purse & shoes (not matching as in it came w/the dress, but in the sense that I have shoes & purse that match id). Bad or good idea to show a pic with?

First of all...don't worry...you have not been that far off so far. Its not wrong to photo it with the belt, but i would show it without the belt. The belt doesn't seem delicate enough for it. To me i would say it was a pleated bodice? I do like showing it accessorized (purse and shoes) in this case to crossmarket it but make really certain to point out that the shoes and purse are not included in the sae.

The label to me looks 1950s, but as late as very early 60s. Its a pretty dress.

Maybe just a different belt. I would show a picture with no belt. And then maybe a thinner, more polished looking belt. the belt looks very matte compared to the dress.

other people may have other opinions though

I dunno why I picked such a thick sash!
I really need to stop taking so many pics when it's super cold, windy & miserable out ;) I think I lose my motivation!

I've done the whole inside thing, and unfortunately, I just don't get the same lighting effect as I do being outside. The best part was dragging my fiancé outside in the cold with me. It would be an understament to say he wasn't a happy camper. Even the 30's wool bathing suit I got him didn't cheer him up (although it made me secretly happy 'cause now I can sell it he he e).

Jonathan,
Actually, I've just been collecting for the last year, and stock piling, and I miss every opportunity to sell. It's gotten to the point though, that stuff is SO squished hanging in the closet, I feel like it's starting to wreck it. That dress was perfectly pressed when I got it back from the cleaners and now look at it :( Anyhoo, I've never had the luck of buying from an estate, it's all pieces I pick up individually!

I agree, another quality dress!! You just rock Vix!!

The fabric looks like a heavy taffeta to me. It looks similar to the heavy taffeta Anne Fogarty used in the 50s.

Yes, diagonally pleated bodice.

Love it!!

:D Maureen
