New England Leather coat Fur Collar. Fur is? Shearling?

Hello!
I have no idea where this coat came from and it's too short in the arms as well as too small.

The detailing in the coat is beautiful.
It appears the collar was added.

Is it Shearling? Or?

In my quest to honor my fiancé, I want to keep a couple of these and part with the rest.

I have toyed with taking some of these items to the local high-school to see if the (Home EC) Lifestyle teacher would want the class to do Redux
Projects.

I love to redo things of quantity to be used.

I can't see the fur well enough in these photos to be able to tell. The last photo is particularly dark and I cannot see the guard hair close enough to see the density.

Hopefully this is a better photo of the collar.
I looked at the last one in my first post and discovered it was upside down. Not helpful!
This may be another Tanuki based on what you said of another coat?
