Oh! That's really cool of you to ask. I really love metallic things from the 1920's/1930's. That's what I started off collecting, and I'm kind of still hoarding it. I don't buy much of it anymore because it's hard to find, and I'm up to my ears in too much stuff.

Otherwise, I like really wearable pieces that have a modern feel. I like simplicity and good lines. I'm not huge into prints, but I'm trying to be more open to them. I like all kinds of sparkly things, even though I don't wear them much myself.

I love the antique things, and know a little bit about them, but haven't owned any for a long time. so yeah. that's pretty much it.

What about you?

Hi Linda. nice to meet you!

haha! party animal! yeah. it gets me in trouble sometimes. lol. I keep very strange hours. I work from about 2-11, and then I go out at 11. it's kind of ridiculous.

I like vintage with clean lines and great tailoring... Iam eclectic... I like traditional vintage, but love coming across something different even if it isnt designer.... If its bizarre its even better for me personally....

Favorite designer Claire Mccardell, Ossie Clark, Giorgio Sant'Angelo, YOHJI YAMAMOTO

I dont have anything metallic from the twenties or thirties... I guess that fabric would be especially fragile.... Oh I do have a pair of 1920's metallic shoes but the condition is not good....(sighhh)

haha! YES hollis, yes it can! I should start a metallic anonymous group. The thing is I've beens saving a lot of little bits and pieces too, metallic ribbon roses and such, hoping to make things with them. If i could just find the time....

chris- i love the designers you mentioned too - especially claire. I had a dress of hers a while back that was pretty cool. I'm kind of sad I sold it, cause I think it fit me.

Hi Mel - I agree with your first sentence. What kind of work do you do? I can imagine finding early metallic clothes would be difficult. Personally I love almost all 30's and early 40's fashion - so flattering and sexy. As a young woman I always wore 40's dresses. Now I am a jeans and t-shirt person. The VFG is a nice quiet place to visit. so... welcome!

Hi Amanda,

Actually, I'm trying to sell vintage full-time now. I think there's a link to my ebay store at the bottom of my post - the www link. anyways, it took me forever to get it all set up, but I'm loving it. I used to run the online operations for one of the largest kid's clothing companies on ebay, so I kind of knew what I was doing, and I just wanted to do it for myself instead of working for someone else. I'm scared, but hopeful.

I actually don't even wear that much vintage myself. I wish I had the nerve to. I like dressing other people though. lol

Welcome aboard!
We (if I may speak for everyone :D ) would love to see images of some of your fave pieces.
I can't say I've seen too much metallic from the 30s, or from the 20s for that matter, save for a few strands here and there in a flapper dress.

oh gosh. hmm. I'm not sure I have pictures of too much. here's one that I have a not-very-good picture of. It's a 1930's lame bolero with INSANE beading. I don't have it anymore. Decided to sell it a while back. I miss it still because it fit me perfectly. I never wore it, but I wish I had.

Much of the stuff I have is odds and ends now. things I want to get crafty with. oh wait. This a 1920's burlesque belt I've been restoring/reworking for a long time now. It was moth eaten when I got it, and it's got a few added things (the turquoise silk at the edges, the aqua sequins around the blue gems.) I'm not a purist - hope no one shoots me! I used to live right down the street from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and it became clear to me that they have everything they could ever need. that put me at ease about my DIY projects. Of course, I would never change a perfectly good item - only things that are beyond repair.

Anyways, this belt (the rest of the costume died sadly) really got me into collecting 1920's mirror-back frosted, glass shank gems/buttons. I'm hoarding them now. lol.

This is a bad pic - bear with me. :)
