Was searching for info about Emma Domb and came across some new and interesting information that someone might want to add to her label information.
The first is from the 1940 Census for San Francisco stating that she is 43 yrs old (born in Kentucky in 1897), married to Leo Domb, a Polish Immigrant and 12 yrs her senior, and has a 22 yr old daughter named Lorraine still living at home. Since she didn't start her company until about 1939, she would have been in her 40's at the time.
I know it was assumed that Lorraine was her sister, but I think daughter is more plausible.
Secondly is an entry from a gal named Maureen on Evolutionvtg.blogspot.com that talks about Lorraine and her husband (Alex Steinberg) starting Lorrie Deb dresses in about 1958 or 1959 (see entry following.) Unfortunately, we do know it was established earlier from an ad, and that it was connected to Emma Domb as they both shared the same address and used the same sewing factory for both brands. According to a reply to a 1909ventilo.me blog, May Barlow Cummings was a designer for Lorri Deb in the 1950s and was even named in an ad as the designer.
It says in part: " ... my Mom worked for Emma until 1953 when we joined my Dad in Venezuela. ... later when we came back to SF, Emma asked my Mom to help her daughter and son-in-law with a new dress business called Lori Deb, this was about 1958 or 9, Emma had trained my Mom as a bookkeeper/office manager specifically for "the rag" business so thought it would be a big help to Alex as he got the company up and running ..."
