New Look Style Dress, is it 40s or 50s?

I just bought this polka dot ensemble online, I was told 40s or 50s, but I am hoping to find either a point of reference that might have a date on it, or a lead as to which decade this dress might be from? I was also told acetate taffeta. Its polka dots are made of velvet too! There is a metal zipper in the back, but it starts about midway down the bodice and goes a little bit back into the skirt. I've seen 30s dresses with this type of zipper, so I'm rather lost on the time period of this outfit. Would anyone know? It also has pockets! There's also these rounded shoulder pad things in the bodice as well.

    Very Lucy! I would call it a cusper - c. 1950ish

Looks fabulous! I have a 1950s summer dress with the same kind of center back zipper that runs sort of from mid-back down. Mine's commercially made and almost certainly European.

Ahh thank you! I was confused by the CB zip. I thought it was a later 50s thing but I was wrong!
