New Online site, Need Advice!

hey everybody,
I have recently opened a new online store. I know there are a lot online vintage stores but I opened Cherry Bomb Boutique because I love buying and selling vintage and I like to meet new people who share my interest. I'm looking for constructive advice. I'm still learning to date my items. If you see something on my site that is totally mis-represented please let me know. I have yet to find a suitable dress form so the one I have has seen better days. I have finally figured out the best place to take my photos but none of the current photos are taken in this new found location. LOL! I want to add a measurements guide and also a condition chart to my site. I realize that it takes time to get things up to speed. I thought why not ask the experts. I think I'm going to try and keep at-least one page of each different department full. Any advice that has worked for you on promoting your site would be appreciated. I recently added some items to babylonmall.com to help drive some traffic to my site at www.cherrybombboutique.com , I love this new business and hope to have some success! I would love to hear from you! Any advice welcome. Would love to hear some good things as well to boost my spirits!

Kameron, haven't worked my way through everything...your site's loading slowly for me...but so far the dating looks spot on. Very nice stock as well...!

I don't have a site, so I leave the technical advise to the experts here.

Overall it's looking quite nice: you have some good things there, and the prices are reasonable too. Some suggestions:

- Brush up on your fabric knowledge. It's always nice if you can tell sellers whether a dress is silk, cotton, rayon, wool or polyester.

- Add sizes to the titles. Makes it easier to choose listings for further information.

- More photos! Back views or close ups are always nice.

lovely logo, and oyu have some nice pieces..

a couple of tips for future,

- iron\steam items as it sends a good message about product care
- ad das much detail as poss, extra pics, length garment. uk/usa sizes is helpful
the font on your page sis quite small on title page too

good uck, its all fun here!!

lovely banner..remmeber the bigger things are, images resolutio, banners etc..the longer it takes to load your page, an dif a visitor as old technology they will just pass on to next site..

Nice stuff! I love vintage hats, but I need to know the inner circumference. It would be great if you could add that measurement to your listings!

I would consider using a different mannequin. The red mannequin form distracts from the clothes you are displaying. It's such a strong colour and will show up through some fabrics. The bodice divides on the form creating a hard line or gap in some instances.

You have some nice hats - some appear to be mis-dated. The 40's Navy Pilll Box Hat looks much later - anything from late 60's onwards and the 50's Leopard Trim Hat looks like it could be 70's/80's. I'm not sure about the 20's velvet 'beret? The base looks much later and the lining isn't right. The star embellishment looks to have been added on.

I like the acrylic and chrome display stands you have used.

Congrats on the new website...I have had a quick look too and I would say that also in the skirt department, the plaid one would be from the 80s and I really don't think the last one is a 50s squaw skirt, it looks more like a 70s version, which were similar.

The hat you have called an Edwardian style isn't really. It is an early 60s lampshade style hat...also the last faux leopard hat could be called a bucket hat.

I am sure as time goes on you will familiarize with the proper decades and keywords to use, we certainly can help out here!

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the great advice. I will be making those updates tonight. Seems I really need to learn more about hats. The clothes I seem to have more of a handle on. I will take all of your advice seriously. I appreciate all the comments. If you can give me some advice on marketing my site to drive more traffic that would be great as well. Your all so helpful. I knew I came to right place! Have a great evening. Thanks for your support.

Hi!

I really like the site, congrats! loaded fine for me, graphics are fab- the color combos are easy on the eyes(mine anyways) & interesting. Personally, I really like the red dress form, especially as it coordinates with the graphics well. One thing on your lingerie tho, try to always include pics of the labels(which sometimes are really difficult to capture, some of mine are hideous:damnit:), collectors really want to see them! And if no labels are present, or there are remnants, describe them. Best of luck!!

Holly
