This is what I found searching the web and the VFG forum:
In 1946 DuPont bought all legal rights came up with Dacron. It was first introduced to the American public in 1951 and bulk production began in 1955. Since 1970 it has been the most widely produced synthetic fiber, often under the generic name polyester.

About the uniform: Is it deadstock? Very well preserved, by the way.
