New to the old ~ vintage is cool ~ Blue Eagle?

My Mom and I recently started having fun shopping in thrift shops and salvation armies. So many treasures. We couldn't resist this lace gown that must have been a fancy dress or more likely lingerie. Looks like something Morticia Adams would wear. Anyway, there were two labels. One is an NRA Blue Eagle Label and the other says something like An Original from the fashion Design Guild. I guess it's from about the 1930s, but we have no idea other than that... Can anyone help? Thanks! This is fun!

Hello! So you've been shopping :clapping:
If you look at the label resource (which I just had to!) there is the NRA Blue Eagle label posted there and it was only in use between 1933-35. I love the fact that it means you can date your dress so precisely. Is it the Fashion Originator's Guild? Take a look in the label resource under F and that explains about it all there far better thanj I can.
Do you have a picture? I'd love to see!
Harriet :)

That NRA label is the best for dating a 30s garment, because it was only used from 1933-35. I bet Harriet is right about the other label being a Fashion Originators Guild label. It's another sure-fire way to date a garment, as it was used 1932-41 only.

Can I go shopping with you? I never find 30s lace gowns in thrifts!

Lizzie

And welcome to VFG!

I will get a picture soon. My mom has the garment and is coming to visit next weekend (halloween). She actually bought the outfit thinking it would be a cool witch's costume. We are not going to wear it now! If someone can let me know how to post a picture, I'll get one up soon. This is fun. Thanks!

Hi Beth. You can do one of two things

hit "post reply" under the last post versus using the "quick reply box".

at the bottom there is a box that says browse and you can upload a photo.

Or if you use a picture hosting service...you can copy and paste the direct url to the board and it will show up

Hi Again, I'm going to try and get a picture up within the next couple of days. My sister lives closer to my Mom and can get a picture to email. Anyway...

It is a "Registered Original Design with the Fashion Originators Guild", and is labeled "NRA (with a blue eagle) Dress Code Authority BKB 017449". I wonder if it's exact origin can be traced with those numbers. If anyone has an idea, let me know. Thanks! Talk to you again soon!

Yes, it looks exactly like the second tag on the site for Fashion Originators Guild. Could these be worth something? It is in mint condition.

Well...the thing about vintage clothing is its hard to determine "worth". A lot of people ask that here. Because there was so much clothing made in the past like there is now, there is no "guide". it all depends on condition, desirability, rarity, style. the ability to connect with the market for it and how it either really exemplifies and era or relates to what is going on in fashion today, etc. it all depends on what someone is willing to pay for it based on all those factors.

The only thing one can go on is based on what other examples have sold for on things such as this. and then a little finger crossing to go along with it.

Does it have worth and value? yes most definitely. but if you are asking to translate that into cash value its something i can't answer.

Thanks for all the info. My Mom has always enjoyed antiques, and odd, out-of-the-ordinary things. We never thought learning about vintage clothing would be so much fun. I've learned a lot about the NRA under the Roosevelt administration. I enjoy American history too, so we're both enjoying learning about this garment. I hope to post a picture within the next few days!
