Hi There,

I have just stumbled upon you guys and wondered if you could perhaps help me out.

I have recently picked up a stunning vintage sequine jacket and I can't find out any info about the designer or the decade of the jacket (I am guessing 50s or 60s), or the potential value....

Is this the right place to ask?

Thanks in advance

Jo

Hi Jo, welcome to the forums.

It certainly is the right place - can you please post photos of the garment and the label? Sequinned jackets were popular in the '60s and '80s, it's fairly easy to tell the difference between them or it may be from another era. The designer may be in the VFG label resource so you can check there too.

Jo, this style first came up in the '60s but they're still being made - yours looks like it could be more modern than the '60s as the earlier ones tend to have "British Hong Kong" or "British Colony" rather than just Hong Kong. Your label looks a bit more modern too.

Thanks for your reply. Oh, that's a shame! I thought I had found something rather special! Not worth anything then?

I thought I had found something rather special!

It IS special! Very pretty and the elaborate hand-beading looks to be in great shape... Also, the earlier Hong Kong beaded sweaters typically have 3/4 sleeves, which can help create a wonderful silhouette but also some awkwardness if you want to wear a long sleeve underneath, so the long sleeves on this example are a nice alternative!

(BTW, are the raised shapes clusters of sequins or a dimensional bead? they look vaguely floral...)

that's good to hear, do you have any idea on value? The best outlet for selling? I don't really want to just put it on Ebay to give it away….

It is in fab condition, I would go so far as to say mint! The flowers are made of sequins sewn at an angle with little seed 'pearl' type things for the centre of the flower.

It is funny that you say about British Colony etc as I have a dress here too, that I have only just got around to looking at and that is older I think. Let me know what you think? 60's? Earlier?

I really do appreciate your help as I have just 'inherited' these items and as you can tell I am a total novice!

I will attach pics. The pattern is gold and silver thread, doesn't really show very well in the photo. What do you think?

I also have gloves and a mohair pashmina

I agree with Carrie - it is special! A beautiful and valuable item, sadly we don't do pricing here but if you look around ebay/etsy etc you will see similar items and that will give you an idea of how much it's worth. Most will be listed as '60s, it's only people like me who will not assume it's '60s just because similar things were made then.

Your dress is '60s, although it looks as if it was shortened.

Thanks for the info. Sorry for asking about prices, newbies eh! :icon_wall:

Thanks for letting me know about Esty - I never knew it existed! There are a few similar items on there with very varying prices! Do you think I am best to put them on there or maybe contact a vintage shop or something?

With regards to the dress being shorrtened, I'm not too sure, as the hem is under the lining? Unless it was done profesionally? I have elbow length gold gloves too, they are lovely, very dainty, gold with a really sparkly sheen to them (lame oerhaps?) the lable says Nylon, Made in Austria, Size 6 1/2, with the maker Asco Gloves REGD on a seperate lable. Do they sound as if they are of the same era or more contemporary? I can take photos if you are interested?
