Hello All! New to the vintage arena - LOVE this site! So now it is time for me to get some help dating some clothing etc.

1. Green Jacket - has no fabric content label AND a label that says "ILGWU Workers Union" in red and blue. It does have a label for how to wash the garment. So I am wondering if this is a 60's jacket? When did collars become larger?

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

2. Beautiful rainbow sequin top! I am thinking 80's but maybe 70's?? It has one closer in the bag, a botton and loop.

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

3. Orange sequin pants that appear to be 70s! But not sure - no label at all - elastic in back.

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From vintage</td></tr></table>

Thanks for all your help!

The ILGWU tag you describe is a 1974 - 1995 tag, so that does rule out 60s. I agree with 80s on that, also the sequin top.
The pants - maybe 70s, but probably later. I don't remember that elastic back waist that much in the 70s, but I was a teenager, and that's only my memory, not anything definitive.

Ah - I am still learning about the tags!! Is there a good site to learn about the tags?? It sounds like tag COLOR makes a difference?? The pants could be homemade - there is a metal hook for the closure that says "RAYMOND" and the sipper is small and says "boy" - so I just don't know.

HANKS for all your help!!

ok as promised.... here are some of my information sites that I use with every batch of clothes I get!

Fabric Identification:

http://reviews.ebay.com/Identifying...ils-amp-Burn-Tests_W0QQugidZ10000000000951489
http://www.fabrics.net/manufact.asp
*** I really like this one because it is a vintage tests (more than just burn and published in 1949 so very relevant...but only covers the natural fibers http://www.rebeccablood.net/domestic/fiber_content_tests.html
http://www.sewnews.com/library/sewnews/library/aafab0303.htm

Description of fabric types/styles (ex brocades, chiffon chintz jacquad etc..)
http://www.dressking.com/search/fabrics.htm

Dress style terms... such as neck liones cuts lengths etc... http://www.dressking.com/search/glossary.htm

Smaller list of dress terms but accompanied buy pictures of necklines sleeves and other information **** very useful**** used for every listing in the beginning! http://www.vintagecityclothing.com/styleterms.html

Sizing charts US and UK actual measurements and relation to S, M, L, and current dress size http://www.poshgirlvintage.com/page.html?id=9

For listing information... its in chart format,, i never used but good for knowing type of information that should be in all your listings! http://www.fashion-era.com/Vintage_fashion/7_guided_description_vintage.htm

Well there are more to go lol this is the first batch of my infomation... A lot of those sites are good if you explore the whole thing I have read almost ALL of them every page and some more than once!

will post the rest tomorrow.... lol this is pain staking to pull them up and cut and copy hehehe good luck and thank you for the compliment,,, just dive in heade first and spenad as much time in vintage shops as you can and ASK ASK ASK away,.. most love to share with fellow vintage lovers...

and a piece of advice always guess an item to be newer than you hope or originally think it is... then give it a little bit and come back to it... you tend to see the little clues you miss and get it better! And you wont be as dissapointed if you find out its not as old as you "paid" for... i have bought clothes from vintage sellers and they tell me it was a certain era only tofond out it was deffinately not! but its ok,.,, I find better deals there becuase she classifies them based on apperance not real age so I grab alot of 60s/50s stuff from her ein her 70s/80s section!! :-) I like her alot too!

any who good luck and glad to see I'm not the only newbie!!
