If you live in or near Des Moines, Iowa, stop in this coming weekend during the Des Moines Arts Festival (taking place a block from the shop, an event that annually draws around 200,000 people, info HERE). Two good friends and local clothing designers that I worked with at the Iowa Fashion Week event have been working with me to open up my mezzanine level at the shop and create a boutique to feature local designers wares! They are subletting and will manage consignors themselves, and are calling the shop "Vintage Vitae" (as they upcycle tattered vintage and create vintage inspired looks from vintage fabrics, etc).

We've got 5 days til the event, it was a ROUGH space but paint & cleaning has improved it, they replaced the drywall around the rail with some iron fence panels (need to paint more), we've got some big rugs to lay down and fabric to drape, lights to get covers on & and racks to bring in but here is how its looking now! I think it will add a LOT to the shop, the upstairs was dead unattractive space and this really creates a total feel.....

I had the shoes on those steps, which had to be moved to the little back hallway, looks pretty good!

Anyway, wanted to share my exciting plans! This weekend I will be open extended hours Friday and Saturday nights w/ wine & snacks and also open on Sunday (not usually) for the nearby event which should bring a TON of traffic!

Great idea, Ang.

We have a great shop like this in the Montreal area....they sell some vintage, have designers doing retro inspired new fashions using old fabrics, also great jewelry made with buttons and other interesting bits, they offer sewing classes, have special soireés featuring artists who do interesting things with fibres, an old friend of mine who does beautiful old hooked rug designs and makes not only rugs, but purses and all sort of things with the different fibres she takes apart and refurbished was featured recently...they also do fashion shows at other venues with the goods from the shop. Very Eco-Friendly place!

Good luck with it, you certainly have a wealth of energy, your little girl will most certainly grow up with an artistic bent!
