nightgown or dress? Or both perhaps? :)

Hello all. :) (I changed my name recently - formally blubirdboutique)

I bought this pretty number the other day... thinking it was a nightgown. It has two small button closures in the front and is open up the front. However, I read the tag and it said "dress".

I still think it's a nightgown, but I could very well be wrong! It might be cute worn over something, though. It's rayon. I'm thinking 40s?

Any help would be great. Thanks!
 
It's adorable! And a dressing gown, not a nightgown. One could wear this over a nightgown, after a bath, or over a slip while getting one's makeup on and doing one's hair prior to getting all dressed up to go out.

Do you have a picture of the label? I'm thinking 40's, too, but it would help if we had a label shot, if there is a label in it.

Your dressing gown is really cute...I bet someone would wear as a dress. I can see someone styling that for day wear.

i agree it's a dressing gown, probably had a matching nightgown to go with it.

with that print, eyelet trim, and the buttons, it looks 50s to me. (btw, it's not reading to me as rayon in your photos. looks like cotton. i only mention this because your potential buyers might think the same thing.)
 
well, you may not be able to capture it in the photos. some things are just difficult that way :). but in your description you can describe the feel of it so people will be reassured it really is rayon.
