Nina Ricci Midi Sweater Wrap - ???

Hi,

Well, cleaning is sloooooow. I keep getting lost in stuff I forgot I have!

I have this Nina Ricci 3/4 length sweater wrap-coat made in Italy and knitted in a wide open weave with a nubby (knotty) wool. The label looks older but is not on the resource.

Were these popular in the early 70s? I owned one once, but I can't remember when. Did they ever make a comeback?

THANKS!

I seem to remember having one in college, which would have been around '72/'73 or so.... But I'm really fuzzy on it! I think the sweater coat has appeared and disappeared a couple of times since then, but wouldn't know about any specific name brands. Sorry!

You know I am going to ask for a picture.. :D Aside from that I do associate that type of thing with the dates already offered up.

Talk about getting lost in stuff when tidying - I always get teased for that, as all my tidy up attempts (especially sideboards and drawers) end up with me sitting in a big pile of mess looking happily through old photos!

Thanks, guys! My goodness, Jonathan, you're up early... or is that late?! Have to run and drive my husband to work, but will post pics and respond more later.

Ta ta for now.

Okay, here are pics - my backdrop is in the spin cycle as I write - and behind the backdrop is the only semi-organized area of my work space.

I've added a plastic rain hat - if you'd confirm 60s on that, I'd appreciate it.

Oh, and the Nina Ricci wrap sash - there are two pieces the same length, one is on the manny. Would the sash have been longer and I should marry the two? Whaddayathink?

THANKS!

Looks later to me, 1980s? Very cosy looking ..with the storm clouds gathering that's just what I want right now over here in the UK!

So there are two identical sashes?

And yes I can imagine that hat with a matching mac, 1960s vote here!

I am wondering with the sweater wrap though...the ones i remember from the 70s were a little shorter i think
The label looks modern, and those wine/burgandy/plummy colors are very early 90s. There were plums and purpley fuschias in makeup in the late 80s, but i seem to recall around 92-95 seeing so much of the wine/burgandy/plum in stores as far as clothing (and lamenting because i can't carry it off)

BUT, i will part way for the people who might know a little bit more than I! So take it with a grain of salt only.

I agree the label looks more recent, and the collar doesn't look right for the early 70's sweater coats. Those, as I remember, had either large lapel collars or were collarless like a cardigan sweater.... I'll be wishy-washy here and guess late 80s into early 90s. Could the extra sash be a scarf for wearing 'round the neck?

Thanks, ladies! Late 80s, early 90s it will be.

Now that Anne has jogged my memory, I remember the one I had was in light brown and COLLARLESS!!! As you said, cardigan like. Comes back as if in a dream...

Perhaps it could go around the neck, Anne, but I think it's too thick. Either way, when I eventually list it, I'll sell it with an extra sash - can't hurt.
