Nina Ricci 'tote' bag

I found this bag (I hope I attached the photo correctly) in my mother-in-law's closet & am curious about it. It appears to made of leather and has no interior labels, only the "Nina Ricci" writing on the handles. The bag more of a tote, than a purse, as it is only one large interior pocket. Less the handles, it measures approximately 13x13x2.

Does anyone know anything about this bag? Age, what it might have actually been used for, etc.

Nina Ricci is a relatively modern brand. I looked up their trademark history and they didn't file for bags until 1998: http://www.ipo.gov.uk/t-find-number?detailsrequested=C&trademark=2168359
So not vintage yet.
It's just a casual funky handbag.

Thanks - although I think I need to do more research still. I still think it's older than 1998 - I found this http://www.trademarkia.com/n-73214340.html which is the logo imprinted on the bag & indicates the logo was used starting 1976ish.

It looks like a gift with purchase sort of tote, to me, and not a "purse", at all. i agree that it's most likely (much) older than '98.

I was guessing that it was probably a 'gift with purchase' type item as well. Although I have no idea what that does for value. Glad I ran across this site though!

I imagine I will be asking lots of question in the future. My mother-in-law recently passed away & we are starting to go through her things. Her closets, yes closets, are filled with purses, shoes, jewelry & clothing. Lots of vintage & top brands. Interesting stuff!
