No Chanel Tag

It may be a Chanel style jacket, not actually Chanel - are there any other labels? Or perhaps it is a Chanel and for some bizarre reason the label was taken out or lost.

Yeah it has all the gold CC Chanel buttons and the trademark gold chain at the bottom inside , you're probably right about it being removed. I just thought maybe sometimes they didn't put Chanel tags in if they were custom . I think it's from the 1950's. Thanks for the reply.

If you post pics, we can help you date it - also, you can use the Saks label to date it.

Without a Chanel label, it's hard to be sure it's a real Chanel: there are lot of fakes out there.

It could be a authorized copy--Saks bought the rights to copy it and had it manufactured in the US. Chanel would have provided a reference for purchasing the fabric, buttons, etc. like the orig.

What kind of buttonholes does it have? Is the lining sewn in by hand or machine at the armhole. Do the buttonholes on the sleeve work?

My book The Couture Cardigan Jacket to be published in the fall discusses these copies.

So glad I saw this post! I too recently found what seems to be a Chanel/ Chanel style jacket at an estate sale.It has Chanel-esque buttons and the chain, but nothing but a "front" and "Saks Fifth Avenue" tag. I'm trying to figure out how I can get more information on it.
