I have a gown and peignoir that look like a set but I do not think they were an original set......

What is it called when you put two pieces together to make a set??

How about a marriage? That's what you call two pieces of antique furniture that have been joined to form one piece. Quite appropriate for bedroom wear!

That term is used in jewelry, too - when two pieces that are similar but not exact are combined.
