Now here\'s something I love - dickies!

I just went through some stock organising (and still looking for silly maternity dress.. aaagh) when I realised that I have amassed a huge amount of dickies. I can't help it, there's just something fun about them.

I was just trying to think of an imaginative use for them (other than their original under the suit jacket function) but really can't.

Has anyone had any luck in selling them? - I've not tried, and I have some really cute sequinned ones and handstitched high end things that seem so very deserving of a new home. Thing is, I would rather keep them myself to look at than give them away on eBay for pennies! Thoughts?

Hmmm

what about using them to sell jewelry. Instead of just against a cloth, etc...have a brooch or necklace displayed against one so you someone an visualize the scale of it against a collar, etc. It could be put on the top of a dress form, or you can make a little cut out or such to mount it on. Kind of like those jewelry store display case things.

Every dickie I have listed in my store has sold within a few days. I usually price them at $14-$20, depending on how fancy they are. Seems like most of them go to the UK, too.

Did you sell to Harriet, Jody?

I haven't had trouble selling them at all, basically in the $15-20 range too. I have shown them in context, under a jacket usually, and I think that helps.

I agree, they are wonderful! I consider them one of the endangered articles of clothing...used so little as to possibly become extinct!

Thank you everyone! I think ebay store may be the way to go then. I had a few with me at the last show (under appropriate suits) and they didn't even get a second glance. You've given me hope Jody!

I agree about the fear of them becoming extinct Maggie, that's exactly it! I think they're such a great thing, and extremely practical when you think about it. I shan't let it happen!!

Jewellery display idea is a good one Chris - I'd not thought of that, particularly if I come across one that's not in tip top shape.

I just checked my completed listings, and all the pics are gone. I show them on my regular manni and include a side shot with her arm removed so buyers can see how it ties or buttons at the side. And I use both "dickie" and "dicky" in the title, as well as "blouse" to capture all the lookers.

Thansk Jody! I think maybe at the show just having them under suits meant people just didn't register that they were dickies, even if they were looking for them.
I'm going to try and get some photographed later on - I'll have to share my favourites if I do!
