So the outside feels almost brushed, super soft and has a little "nap" to it. The reverse, and the orbs that show through, are a gold silk like weave. Feels like silk, but huh? I've had brushed cottons and flannels, but silk? Can it be?

(ps, it also has one of those old plastic zippers!)

Thanks for any help, I'm lost on what to call this!

Can it be a super-thin silk panne velvet? That can be virtually weightless....

Oddly, the fabric itself looks 1920s.

Could be heavy rayon satin brocade, where they've used the reverse as the front rather than the satin side. I have a dress with fabric somewhat like this in my shop.

You get the best stuff! That's one heck of a killer frock - I'm so in love with the 'forties right now.

I think I have a '30s dress with the same fabric. I have no idea what it is, although perhaps Eileen's idea is right?

The dress I have is black with bright pink polka dots on the outside, the sueded side, and bright pink/black dots on a heavy satin inside.

Ohh!! I saw mention of "sueded rayon" in a mid 40s Sears catalog I just got, I wonder if this is what that effect is? Its super soft, drapes gorgeously and feels amazing!

Thanks guys, its a consignment from a friend!
