Oddly shaped (Z-shaped) scarf -- how do I wear it?

Hi, I'm new, I was referred here because no one could answer my question in another forum.

Several months ago I found a stash of great scarves that belonged to my grandmother. I think most of them are from the 70s, but I'm far from an expert in such things. My favorite of these has a mega-cute elephant pattern, but it has a strange shape and I'm not sure how to wear or style it.

Here's the shape, kind of z or s shaped?

Here's a close-up of the pattern, for full appreciation of how cute it is. :)

When I found it, it had a distinct fold in it like this: (it's wrinkled now from being packed, I just moved.) The fold could be a complete coincidence, as all the scarves were packed in a small shoebox, but it's the only clue I have.

Here's some of the tying methods I've tried

using the fold, tie in knot on the side. This sits very loosely on my neck and doesn't stay well in one place (one corner in front, one in back)

use the fold as a loop, pull one narrow end through and knot with the other end (both corners in front)

same as first pic but wrapped around twice (one corner in front, one in back)

Make a knot between the two wide parts and tie the narrow parts in back. The narrow parts hang down almost to the middle of my back when knotted.

Okay! This is all I've come up with! Any ideas or help? Has anyone seen this type of scarf before? Thanks in advance, I appreciate any advice on wearing or styling this cute elephant scarf!

I wondered if it was meant to be worn as a sort of detachable collar or decoration to go under a collar i.e. using the fold as in photo 3, place the fold at the back of the neck, bring the tails over the shoulder and tie in a scarf knot. I'm imagining this would make a sailor style collar at the back, with scarf tails in front, or maybe two collar style points over the front of the shoulders.

Gayle, anything's possible! How would you suggest wearing it as a waist scarf?

I'll have to try some more with the sailor scarf idea, so far the points have just been at the tops of my shoulders so it doesn't look right, but I might be able to do some finagling to get it to work.....would this be a look in fitting with early 70s fashion?

Hi ,- your 3rd photo and how it is arranged in that, is what made me think it could be a sash. But then, how would you secure it at the back???. If I had more time I would play around with this shape for you, but sorry am a bit pushed for time right now.
