Okay, so NOW I understand

I now know why I keep getting outbid on all the best novelty scene border skirts. It's because they are actually fashionable. I didn't know. I did know that Prada showed them last year, and that they were in some of this year's magazines. But I did a crazy thing last week. I went to the mall, something I rarely do. I had to exchange the horrible scented Bath & Body Works gift I received for something in Juniper Breeze. So while there, I decided to take a look in the clothing sections.

What a surprise. Not just border prints, but also Mexican (But made in China) sequined ones. Lots and lots of vintage inspired stuff that was actually cute. And I even bought one. The label is "Kenzie" and it is a scenic border print, pleated with ribbon accent. I loved the way it fit more than I liked the fabric, so I bought it mainly to use as a pattern. (See novelty print thread)

And I wore the skirt last Saturday and had probably 10 people comment on it. This was at an antiques show, and most of them wanted to know if it were vintage.

Oh ye-es... I was given pause by the window display in 'East' which is usually a more sedate, ethnically inspired parallel to Monsoon.

They had summer flared skirts with harlequin dancers gamboling around the hem. I thought, well it would be good to get a 2005 version!

I've left it as I reckon they're probably about 60 quid or more and I've spent too much on skirts already this year.

But yes, blame it all on Miuccia.

My daughters always want to know how I know what is in fashion when I never go to the Mall.

Duh, it is because I take about four fashion magazines each month and tear them apart finding out. Also find out online, too.

After all, you cannot know the vintage to present to your customer at a certain time unless you do know. However, some vintage seems to always be in style.

I agree Linda, there are a lot of things that are always in style, and I think they are because people buy them who have a self defined style that really defies what is trendy. A lot of classic lines

I went to a mall to day to drop my resumé at a few stores.

The secretary in one of the department stores had on an awesome scenic printed long pleated skirt in blue & green on white w/black lines. I wanted to ask her where she got it, but I just complimented her & left it at that.

I also saw some cute cute stuff from Liz Claiborne, Jones NY, and of all places, Limited NY (or whatever it's called now). Lots of novelty prints & beads & sequins! I LOVE embelllished wear!

I really do want that secretary's skirt tho...I shoulda hung around & mugged her when she got off work. LOL
