old bag

What are your thoughts about this pretty little bag?
The frame/handle appear to be brass. The light-colored beads look like opals but are probably glass. The blue beads are cut and also probably glass.
The silk inside is shattered. It's iridescent.
The paisley is woven.

I LOVE things made from antique paisley shawls! (I have a 50s jacket, a 60s suit, and a 40s purse and am perenially on the hunt for a 20s coat that won't force me to take out a second mortgage... :) )

Can you post slightly larger pictures, Claire? It's very hard to see detail on this one, though I'm thinking the shattered silk and brass frame suggest earlier, like maybe 30s?

Also, how long is the chain?

At last some details and some info.
The stones are faux opals and sapphires.
The paisley is woven, can't see the back because it is underlined.
Phyllis Magidson at MCNY said quite positively a repurposed item from mid-nineteenth century. Old shawl, cut up and used to make a bag.
I have several paisley pieces, big, little, really good, fair, etc. Fabric is nice but not wonderful.
Wonderful would be like that YSL suit cut with the wrong side out and all the little tuffs showing.
