Old bracelet/anklet.

Hi all

This was my Grandmothers - that is she in my avatar. It has been in my family since the 1920's but I think it's older. She was told that it was an anklet (I can't believe this would get around anyone's ankle -see the opening - plus it's heavy!), possibly one of a pair and belonged to a dancing girl. She was told it was either Indian or Egyptian.

I think it's silver and the last photos shows the accurate colour. It has never been cleaned.

Does anyone else have one/or seen one/or know anything about them?...

That's beautiful (like your grandmother :sunshine--what a wonderful piece of heirloom jewelry!

I can't help with dating, other t han to say that I agree this looks quite a bit older than the newer versions you see of it. I think it's a bracelet, of ethnic/southeast Asian origin like these Indian pin-fastened hinge cuffs:

Thank you Carrie. We had a lot of her old jewellery but it went missing in 2011.

My Grandma wore this just about everywhere (as a bracelet) even into her mid 90's. She was a ballet dancer back in the day and it must of kept her quite flexible as I remember Grandma (in her 90's) showing us she could still touch her toes and flinging her arms in the air:- showing us her dance moves, with it on! But I've never worn it as I find it too heavy.
