Hi everyone! I got a nice tie a few months ago and i'm trying to get more information about the label/date. The silk has a different feel compared to other regular ties, it's rare.
If you know something about it please let me know :)

Thanks in advance! And sorry for the crappy pics.

Having just picked up a vintage tootal tie myself, your tie has some similarities in the way it has been made, the close clipped hems, the off-centre folding (I don't understand why most ties of this age are like this!) and the open construction of the wider end with a single tacking stitch above. I would think it's going to date from the early 1960's or maybe earlier.

To help you date it further can you tell us how long and wide it is?

Hi Melanie! Thanks for the info.
It's almost 129cm long and 3.75 inches wide. I can't find information about the company, sadly. It seems like it was a company established in New Bond street.

I found Edouardo & Butler, Shirtmakers and Hosiers, at 15d Clifford st, W.1 as far back as at least 1902. At that earliest date the London phone directory had an entry for "Butler, Samuel Edward, shirtmaker; see Edouardo & Butler"

Between 1932 and 1934 the company added "Ltd" to its name.

The latest entry I found for them (and there may have been earlier or later ones) was 1970, at which time they were still at the same address and were still listed as "Shirtmkrs, Hosrs."

Thanks for the info!

Carrie, i'm not sure... it doesn't feel like a "normal" silk tie. It's very lightweight and has a cool texture.

Is that place near Savile Row? I've never been to London :)

even i too like such soft and silky tie and seems it will give give a proper gentlemen look .i too want to have one of this.

It's hard for me to guesstimate age from your pictures, but 50 inches is pretty short for a tie, and together with the width, the lack of tipping (lining at the end) and the stitching along the hem I wonder if it isn't early 40s?

Is the pattern printed or jacquard woven in to the silk, and could the fabric be rayon?
I agree with Carrie, the machine sewn hem. the length, lack of lining, all say 1940s to me.
