Old Movies=Great Vintage Fashions

Hi Everyone,
I am watching '3 coins in a fountain' this morning. 3 american secretaries in rome, scenery, love and 1954 fashions, aahh,
gotta love it.
What other movies do you recommend for vintage viewing. I am trying to collect them.
One of my very favorites is Auntie Mame.

The clothes in Auntie Mame are wonderful, however, believe it or not, its supposed to take place between 1929 and 1947! They didn't even try to to make it historically accuracte. There are some films with fashion shows in them that are wonderful, like Roberta, The Women, and Lovely to Look At, which are great.

Thanks Sarah, those Lucy episodes were great, she was so funny, great clothes too.

I think I own now voyageur I'll have to dig it out and watch it again.

I also love How to Marry a Millionaire with Marilyn.

The Awful Truth w. Cary Grant and (i think) Irene Dunne. She has some amazing outfits. She wears a pair of long palazzo pants in one scene that are so terrific...

If you get a chance a really great movie is Some Like It Hot with Marilyn, Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis. Marilyn, of course, has some great outfits, as does the supporting cast, but all in all the movie is just so sweet and hilarious. I have a feeling if I'd been the proper age I'd have liked Jack Lemon for being a cutey-patooty. :)

The Women is definitely one of the best films for serious clothes-watching - and one of the best films ever made :adore: ! I can only recommend it.

And I love those 30s screwball comedies! And there's always some interesting clothes to be seen in those too (I adore Clark Gable, so I've seen quite a few of those with him, but I can't think of a title right now...).

Bonjour Tristesse, 1958 (the gorgeous Jean Seberg was the star, ably supported by David Niven and Deborah Kerr).

Deborah Kerr's outfits (as the 'older woman') in this film are probably the most chic IMO, and according to IMDB Hope Bryce was the 'costume coordinator.'

See what you think - I reckon the styling is pretty damn good!

Another vote for the fashion show in The Women. I saw it for the first time a few months ago. It's jaw-dropping! Very much disliked all the over-the-top cattiness of the film itself.

I also love the Edith Head designs in "What a Way to Go" from 1964 with Shirley MacLaine and a star-studded cast of leading Hollywood men. Here is what Ms. MacLaine has to say about it:
