Older 30s/40s Wool Varsity Sweater Question Plz....TY

Hi there! I posted this on the VCA board last year and couldn't really find anything out. Of course, I tried to do my own research as well beforehand and basically came up w/ nothing. I found schools that had similar colors...but not the same.

Mens clothes are not my forte whatsoever but I'm guessing this is late 30s/early 40s?

Any help or information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. TY!

Oh the label says Dakin's Portland Maine.



 
I cant really help with the date, but I would call that a U neck. It is very cool! I bet it goes high when you list it!

It's near perfect except for the cuffs. It looks like they wore hem out and then repaired them? What do you think?



 
I love old sports sweaters. The knit is a Shaker stitch, and Yes, I'd say anywhere from late 20s through 40s. I'll look in a couple of catalogs to see if I can find something similar.

The problem with finding out exactly what school or team is that the school very well could have closed by now. There's 2 or 3 such teams/schools in my itty bitty burb that have melded into another or dissolved completely.

I would list it as it is, vintage 20/30/40s sports team sweater with an M monogram. There are collectors for these.

Oh, I'd call it a squared U neckline.
 
Not sure if that's blue or black.

Possibly University of Maine Farmington? (where one of my nephews goes)
