OLEG Needs a Date

This is an incredibly well constructed dress from Oleg
Cassini, which I am thinking due to the length is
early 60s?

It is a fabulous dark emerald green satin, fully lined in
a organdy fabric. Inside hook & eye waist strap.....fair amount of hand stitching on the inside.

Its gorgeous! I don't know about a date for it. Its saying early 60's to me but something in the back of my head is also saying late 60's ( don't know why either)
 
Oh my goodness - I just *love* that color! And I am very picky when it comes to shades of green, I either love or hate and this is a love!

I'm gonna disagree on the date, I think it's early 70's. The slightly elongated pointy collar is giving me the hunch. But I can see 60's in it, too. Perhaps a cusper?
 
I think it's early 60s. After the middle of the decade, Cassini began licensing everything out and the quality really dropped. If there is hand work inside, it has to be before 1965 or 66. Metal or plastic zipper?

Hi Guys...

the zipper is metal, and the lining is an organdy type fabric which seems a higher quality than your run of the mill
acetate.

I'm not on my computer at the moment and don't have access to my pic files or I would post the label.

Alright, one last question - can you tell if it's been shortened? I'm thinking late 50s/early 60s, but seens a little short.

Haven't measured this yet (and, I'm having my first cup of coffee and am
downstairs at the moment), but this manni is over 6' tall, so it would
be longer on a regular height person. I'm pretty sure it has not
been shortened.

I'll measure this in a bit and post.

I say early sixties too. While the collar is long and pointy, it is spread out toward the shoulders. If it were seventies, the pointy collar would be more towards the front. (not sure if that made any sense). The collar paired with the narrow V-neckline make me wonder if it isn't late fifties. Very chic dress!

That's a tough one because the style is so classic, you could have worn it fashionably anywhere between about 1960 to 1972. However, the skirt looks like a post 1964 length, unless it has been shortened, and the wide sleeve bands with slightly full sleeve look middly 1960s to me. I would have guess it to be a conservative classic look for a middle aged woman in the mid 1960s.

What is so wrong with middle aged and conservative? lol For some reason, it is so unfashionable these days to wear something that actually covers your body and makes you look mature and confident!

I know, I know.... fashion's adjectives these days are"hot, young, sexy, fresh", but they used to be "grace, elegance, elan, femininity"
 
That is beautiful. My wedding dress is also made by Oleg Cassini but is very recent. Your dress is just breath taking.

After all.. with fashion being what it is today... what do the hookers wear?

Unfortunately, middle-aged and conservative are not
something I want to look like (and I am middle-aged)...chic,
elegance, grace and elan...well, on good days maybe!

Samantha? hmmm...Kristine, you may have a point -too bad I couldn't get Celeste's nose to wiggle up some bids once I list this....Ebay and Oleg Cassini don't seem too compatible.

OOOO Kristine, you are so right! Samantha Stevens out for dinner, while Aunt Clara conjurs up a team of elephants at home while trying to make popcorn for Tabitha, and Gladys Kravitz sees the whole thing, and Larry Tate drops by...
 
Middle-aged and conservative. Yep, the press and culture have given that phrase a bad rap. Although I do think that the French concept of chic associated with "a woman of a certain age", is something we need to revive.
Of course, I write this as I sit, at my computer, wearing a tank top and Juicy Couture velour sweats. LOL
