I recently bought an olga nightgown it has the 4 digit style number bodysilk behind ever olga label. Now I have the style that has the twist in front and this one is similar, but it only has 1 shoulder strap. I'm not at home at the moment but It looks like 9683 is the number or something similar, I've searched everywhere with different variations of the number and search terms, I can't find it. It is red. Anyone have any ideas or know of a gown style like this

What is that you want to know about the garment? Eg, if you want a date for it, it's best to photograph all labels clearly so we can read them, plus the garment itself.

Melody many vintage items are now almost unique pieces because it's quite rare to find the exact same garment again, after 50 odd years in this case. You may try searching for a FB group for Olga lingerie fans/collectors or similar who are more likely to own or have handled many Olga garments.

It's just strange the one shoulder, that was not even popular then and you would think you would see something similar somewhere I mean I've been hunting for 2 months.

I agree with 1970s. It is not really what one would consider rare, as it was mass produced, it is just that they probably only made this gown for 1 season. Olga nightgowns in the 1970s were known for their famous bust enhancing qualities and certain styles remained best sellers for years. Other styles were not big sellers, were not re-ordered by the stores, and so less were made. That one shoulder style seems to me to flatten the chest rather than enhance it, and probably did not compliment the average figure. It flattens the small chest and gives no support or "lift" for the larger chest.

Olga gowns are not rare, no matter what the style. I see some Ebay sellers asking $250 for a gown that another seller has the exact same gown on auction that sold for $35. So take your friend's advice with a grain of salt. You will find that the larger sized Olga can fetch the higher end prices, with the XL sizes going for very good money despite the style numbers.

I love the gown, it is not common to see, it probably is a scarce style, and the color is great too.

P.S. I just noticed there is ruching on the bodice at the back of your mannequin, so I think it was probably on back to front.

Okay I agree one shoulder 70s as well but I guess what has me puzzled is who really is the tag expert. I was told by many 4 digit styles were 60's. I joined this guild because of the obvious differing info out there and am very pleased with the responce thank you much. This gown looks as though it was never worn I have another one I put up on an auction and was told to take down, I can't wait to hear what you have to say about it. I am getting ready to open an online museum, what else is an out of work history teacher to do. Lingerie fascinates me and I've built quite the collection. I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's opinion. Btw the olga gown I'm talking about was told to me was one of her first and that I should not sell it. I am in the midst of sorting brands, dating and getting organized but I will make a point to get it up here asap. I also have 2 long sleeved gowns with the nylon skirt but the top is a cotton blend, I'm always stumbling across new things I've not seen.

I found a September 1979 article about lingerie and in the center of it is a (dark and hard-to-see) photo of a woman in what seems to be your gown. The caption below it says: "The dramatically shaped one-shoulder gown by Olga is all soft-stretch Bodysilk; in red or black. It's $30." Near the end of the article it says: "One-shoulder gowns seem to be the favorite style for this fall and winter..."

While I can't tell the details from the poor photo in the article, I agree with Melanie that I think your gown is on your mannequin backwards. In the newspaper photo the gown is on the woman so her right shoulder (as you look at the photo) is bare--the opposite of the way you are showing it.
