It's not quite accurate Paul though as I'm an 8 over here but in Canada and the US, my shoe size since I was 14 has been an American 10! The converter says that I'm a US 9

I did just try out one size in turn but to see if it worked i.e. the converter itself.
I am not surprised at that because I have a feeling that converting between continental and UK or US some rounding up or down takes place.
I think some high street shop also fell foul of that years ago, IO whish I could remember which shops it was. Maybe shoe shop have sorted that out and the computer boys have not.
The old tape measure still is handy!

I think you are right about the rounding because Euro sizes are calculated in centimenters, there is not an exact conversion to US, just an estimate.

I think the best bet is if you buy a pair of Euro shoes that fit you well, look for that brand again when you buy online.
