Opinions: Dress or Towel?

Hmmm. I think I see a hem line on the bottom, which would likely make it a dress. Yet, it does look like a towel except for that. It is a great photo.

I'm saying towel too. The way it looks at her waist would make for a sloppy dress. Bare feet. Disheveled hair. I'm saying towel.

The towel might well have been produced by them as well, as matching beachwear. I think it was still just a towel, they just decided to make it more attractive by wrapping it round a model

I vote towel - you can't see any signs of structure and the hem is too short for a dress of that time. Plus, the hem leans down on one side suggesting something that is being held rather than an actual hem. The fabric also reads like terry towelling cotton.

Linda, if you have the actual photo, why not scan it at a high res and blow it up and see the detailing? I'm sure you'll have the answer.

For example, if this was a dress, it's a very fitted style so there will be evidence of bust shaping, seams, darts etc.

I wonder if this was one of a series and in the next photo she drops the towel to reveal either a strapless swimsuit or perhaps *gasp* nudity!

Oh boy! I am now enamoured with those towels, both the originals and reproductions! I might have to find one or two for this summer!

Another vote for towel - and it looks like they made them to match their suits, so it all makes sense. Love the retro towels as well!
