Orange... Flapper.... what?

This came with a home visit purchase of 20’s (+/-) items that had been stored in a trunk. At first I thought it might be a child’s dress. It is silk chiffon - and mighty short to be a slip.... Besides, would it have that kind of skirt if it was a slip? And the orange is an odd color - isn’t it? A daring negligee? Any ideas or observations?

Orange was popular in the 20s and early 30s. That looks like the top to a dress meant to worn over a slip with attached skirt.

Although it makes a cute mini now.

I bet it had a tiered ruffled skirt so that top ruffle would be the beginning of a row of several. What an amazing color!!!

I'm guessing an early 30s dress with ruffles, and they've chopped the skirt off to wear it as a top (perhaps it was damaged? That feel more generous than suggesting they masscacred it).

I have something similar - also in orange.
