Original Bernetti New York 1940s????

Hi Everyone,

I found this lovely Original Bernetti New York at the thrifto.
Side zipper. Fab cording on bodice and over the pleated skirt.

I am submitting images of front, detailed front, back & two labels I found in the dress The designer label script is actually more navy than blue. And the other label has a reference to 1947 (hope you can read it)

Does the 1947 on the order tag refer to the date dress was made? or is this something else?

Thank you all once again for your time and help.

Best regards,
Alice

I think that 1947 is the copyright date claimed by the company that makes the tags...I think the name of the style of the tag is "ATAGLANCE" but I can't read the name of the company.

I have an idea of your dress dating but will wait for experts to chime in.

The dress is gorgeous. Great find!

Lovely dress. I think the 1947 refers to the date of the copyright for the "At A Glance" label, also, and is not the date of the dress. I think the dress is early '50s. Does it have belt loops?

If only dresses came with date of manufacturing, it would make our job a lot easier!

I agree with the other ladies: a copyright date simply means the date the copyright was applied for so you can use it as a "can be no earlier than" date but some people use their copyrights for decades.

Agree with early '50s for the dress.

Alice, you find the most amazing things. I LOVE that dress! I love Bernetti pieces--I had one that had that decorative cord-like treatment applied to it, and it was stunning. The dress I had was all hand crafted in applied trim and some other embellishments it had. Is yours done likewise?

And, yes, I agree with 50s, and I would say early to mid.

Hi Anne, Yes the cording appears to be hand crafted, but there are no other embellishments on the dress. I love the quiet elegance of this dress. Never thought to try it on....hhhhmmmm.

Thank you all, once again, for your help. Each time I submit an item for review, I learn something new!!!! Maybe someday I'll learn how to transfer those cute little smiley things onto my reply page.
:-)
Best regards,
Alice
