And thanks in advance.

I have a fab baby blue beaded cardi made by Penrose.

It says 100% Turbo Orlon. I need help dating it, please. I see 50's, but was Orlon even happening then?
I just can't get good pics of small stuff at all
My "normal" size ones don't exactly rock, either.

Label:

It also has a Union Label that may help.
That pic is horrid, but reads
Int'l Ladies Garment Workers Union AFL-CIO
The #s are 783973 with A A G R above them.

As always. any & all help is greatly appreciated.

There are several AfL-CIO labels so you have to show us the label, however what will help is that the AFL and the CIO merged in 1955 and a new label that is white background with a medium blue color was created and used from 1955-1963. The next label is similar so you will need to show your label to determine which it is.

I Googled "Orlon" and discovered on Wikipedia that "The Dupont Corporation created the first acrylic fibers in 1941 and trademarked them under the name "Orlon".

If you Google "Turbo Orlon History" this pops up - a Penny's ad from 1956.

So - we need to see your label.

I have the following in my notes -

1928 Dupont began the fundamental research that would lead to discovery of nylon
1938 Nylon formally introduced to the public

1950 Dupont introduced first commercial availability of Orlon, a new acrylic "wool substitute"
1951 DuPont announced that a plant in N.Carolina would begin to manufacture Dacron polyester."

--- I see 50s too - nice sweater.

I've seen a lot of Orlon, and it's usually late '50s to mid '60s (when acrylic was used more widely).

Your cardigan looks to be late '50s, so that tallies with Lynne's info.

Thanks so very much,everyone!
I was so sure it's 50's but the Orlon threw me. Now I know! :D

Okay - here's the union label. Good Luck actually seeing it.
It is the white background with medium blue printing.
(Photo no longer available)

{joules} - I don't even know what "macro" is.
This camera is a bit too much for me.
I try to read the owners manual & I may as well be reading greek.

Oh & it's got the size tag still attached at the waist, but is missing the very top button.
I looked thru ALL of out buttons - gotta have at least 1,000 to no avail.
How much do y'all think that will hurt the price?

Thanks again!

anywho um.... macro is usually a setting very near to your flash. to me it looks like a little tulip... find it!! It get in on small details, GREAT for lace and labels... I try to picture all my labels in my listings as they are very important to some collectors!

The Macro button is on the bottom here... my personal camera it is on the left.

I got it from this link

your welcome. but you have top get generally "close" to the garment/item. Bout 1-2 feet away. I stand 2 feet away and zoom in a little. If you do too much it will still be blurry, and if you are to far away it will still blurry. After doing 2-3 times you will know exactly where to stand and how much to zoom with ease. Just make sure you turn macro on :-) I usually cut my flash of and change the little wheel with numbers (something like) 1600 1400 1000 800 600 400 200 80 and Hi on it to Hi. That's sad. I think its the light saturation? I don't know what its called but I know it picks up the light in the room so you don't have to use the flash. You just have to be still so it wont work well for motion pictures......

I wish I knew more of what I was talking about lol, but I am not a photographer either. Maybe someone with more knowledge will tell you the "correct" method but my way gets it done.

I am trying to find a nice little tutorial online... I will post once I find one lol

Well not exactly good for labels.... but you ladies that take pictures of jewlery and accessories..... Have yall heard of a milk jug diffuser? seems to work like a charm!

Here is a decent one.. I think the wheel i was refering to was aperture? and it is discussed... this is short and to the point.. start off reading where you see the lady bugs.

Nope I lied the wheek I was referring to is the ISO but it controls the incomming light because I have no luck with flash

Hope that helps a little!

Leisa, Jennifer has explained it quite well.
When I first figured out the use of the macro setting on my old camera, it was nothing short of an epiphany. On that camera, I would have to choose the setting, whenever I wanted to use it. On my new camera, that mode is automatic, which is really a nice feature of the Canon S90.

you are welcome and thought it needs to be washed, all vintage that is for personal wear needs to be washed amd I clearly state that is the buyers responsibility.

If it still has the little tag on it it is unworn virtualy new old stock, and more sought after. But just because you can get 75 for it doesn't mean you have to. If you are happy with $50 you will gain more followers if you offer nice prices... so good for you :-) but yeah 75 is likrly. I get about 40-50 for similar sweaters at auctions wth average issues, a moth nibble or two or a spot or two thst may or may not come out. Stuff thats inv VG cond, not Exc
