Oscar de la Renta Dress 1970s or 1980s?

I looked through our labels and through past postings on Oscar de la Renta and through my reference books. Still trying to decide if this dress is 1970s or 1980s. The sleeves are similar to a kimono/dolman, (one piece with the dress bodice). Dress' lack of shoulder pads and cut have me thinking 1970s, but the check/plaid fabric reminds me of the men's wear influence of the 1980s. I'm sure there is something I'm missing that definitely says 1970s or 1980s. Thank you for your help!

I agree with 80s. That wide shoulder stance hints that there may have been shoulder pads at some point. Any indication that they were removed?
 
No indication of shoulder pads. When I tried it on (I can almost wear this dress) the line from neck to sleeve flows smoothly over arm & shoulder. In one of my reference books I saw this doleman/kimono profile on a number of late 70s dresses... so that, and lack of shoulder pads, is what led me questions the date.
