Ava & I would love to see the Northern Lights and I understand late Sept/early Oct is a great time to do it. Catch is, we're in Iowa and while its not a huge deal to drive up through Minnesota to Canada, I'm not sure looking around online which is the best and reasonably closest place to go. Thought I'd ask people who actually live up there for thoughts! Any suggestions? I dont want to spend a ton, or take a looong vacation. But I would love to see them and so would Ava.

Thanks! Ang

I have only seen terrific Northern Lights a few times in my life from where I am in Canada - southern Alberta - considerably North of Minnesota. Once was all throughout the summer of 1994 (preggo with my first, so I really remember it). Once it was while camping in Northern Alberta, about 5 hours north of where I am).

So, I really don't know much about your chances of seeing them, but definitely go to an area that is far from city lights. Perhaps Minnesota has great sighting even though it South from us here??

I've never seen them here in Newfoundland. They can be seen in Labrador, however, that is quite a distance from Minnesota!

I've seen them quite a few times, but rarely the multi colored ones - they're amazing, I say take the trip up north, they're worth it :)
