When I go to the flea markets, I'm always struck by the wierd things that have been turned into clocks and lamps. I guess it says something about humanity's creative impulse, that we always want to "improve" something by making it something else!
It's bad, but nothiing compared to the abominations my stepfather would create. He took a beautiful old clarinet with bone keys, spray-painted it gold and made a lamp out of it.
While shopping with a friend she purchased (for a song~) a darling Victorian oak vanity with a large oval mirror that had been "personalized" by the previous owner and her 4 yo daughter. It was covered in a coat of greenish cream paint, with spots, splashes and mists of various colors of spray paint and adorned with different sized, plastic, neon colored ribbon shaped drawer pulls. Avant Garde children's room decor, but, oh, the work my girlfriend is going through to "un-avant garde" it.....
