OT sewing question from braindead would be seamstress

I am going slightly mad. saturday is my son's 4th birthday party, and for the first time I have bitten the bullet and hired a hall and a magician for 20 kids. (last 3 years I have got away with bbq and no guests under the age of 25, very mean of me, but now he is at school all has changed!)

Anyway I have been sewing bunting to decorate the hall as A) I refuse to pay for it when I have so much fabric, and
B) I thought it would be a fun project.... as I have so little else I should be doing :D

So I am now officially sewn out, but the following weekend am attending a big 'party in the park' thing to help on my friends stall. She sells homemade cards, chutneys etc. so thought I should make a few bags to sell out of more of the aforementioned fabric.

Now I have sewn lots of bags over the years but usually very basic it's been ages since I had to line one and now I am having a mental block. What's the simplest way? It's just an open tote shape with a single shoulder strap.

I know I should be able to work it out for myself but I am frazzled and would love moral support..

H :)

For a fastening, what if you did a U shape loop on one side--sewn into the seam and on the other side a cord with a knot on the end...you could even put a large bead on the end....the U shape loop will stay closed by the large knot or bead.....hope that makes sense :)

Or....this is a little different....What if you sewed ribbons or fabric inside the bag....maybe 2 strips on each side. Then they could be tied in a bow to hold the bag loosely closed.

You could also do a little U shape loop--on one side-- that attaches to a button on the other side.....im still thinking :)

Okay, warning, these pics are huge cause I wanted you to be able to read instructions. On the third one at the bottom is a neat bag and you just make it by tying knots in each corner and tying the knots on each side into a handle! If you want it lined, just put two pieces of material together. This one was made with a scarf , 32 inch square or it says you can use a 45 inch square tablecloth.

Linda, I think I love you! LOL - thank you so much, I shall try that next. And Chris I love the ribbon idea too, will experiment....

**(sorry, edited as I had a headache last night and meant tiff with ribbon idea, chris for buttons - have utilised!)

Wow, those are so cute and so easy looking! I'm admiring the designs with a bit of a jealous eye, since I design fabric bags.

I was waiting for you to ask Maggie - then luckily I worked out the lining bit myself - your bags are wonderful, and I am certainly no competition judging by mt last night performance (I still managed to sew the lining in backwards, handles inside the lining - and had to spend hald an hour unpicking it..)...

(For anyone that wants to admire them it's www.materialgirlbags.com :D )
