The coat dress looks matronly 70s to me, the black Edwardian dress is c. 1911 - 1912, and the black tiered skirt cocktail dress looks c. 1948-50ish to me.

thanks..peeps.... i must admit i was stumped on the date of the blue/ black tiered skirt dress.......

how do you know what something is worth...?...

when you sell at vintage fashion events etc......how do you price your items ? .......

if you were selling the above.... or if you seem these items for sale.. what type of prices would you expect to see..?

i must admit.....i have either had items for years..... or i have bought thngs recently.... rather cheaply......

i should imagine this type of question is how long is a peice of string......as there is no hard and fast prcing for vintage items...... as its only worth what the buyer is prepared to pay.....

over the christmas hols...... i am really going to have to sort out exactly what i got.....and store them properly....with my mother now allowing me to use her basement.....i can sort them out.. and start injoying them.....and sort out what is staying... and what is going...

how do you store your vintage items.....?

I am terrible at pricing! And yes what people are prepared to pay does come into it.

I think the main things to consider (in no particular order) are rarity, condition, size (wearable/hard to find/displayable), and of course it finally comes down to overall desirability/demand.

There is some general advice on dating clothes, and buying and selling if you look at the home page (left hand menu) for a link.

Regarding cleaning and storage etc. Hollis did a brilliant workshop here http://www.vintagefashionguild.org/public/viewthread.php?tid=1155

Worth is often solely based on what someone is willing to pay for it when it comes down to it. And what you can charge depends on location as well. Somethings sell higher in other geographic areas than others, etc.

On the edwardian dress - it would come down to condition and sizethat would dictate. And you have to be brutally honest. Don't grade it on a "curve" because its older. Black may not command as much as a different color - but i would wait til someone who knows shows up because edwardian is not my area.

On the blue dress - esp. if its satin if it appears - if condition is there - and it is displayed well you could get some decent action on that one as someone would snap it up to wear even if not a collectible label. It looks like a flattering cut to the bodice which is a definite plus.

It might not be what you may like to hear, but the 70s coat dress - value would be very minimal. You would have to find just the right person. Condition would have to be impeccable and it would have to be displayed in a novel way. It would do better at a live situation where someone could try it on rather than ebay. Picking up newer items - 70s and 80s can be tricky.
