These are some other things I got that have mystery labels and was wondering if anybody knew anything about the makers:

Early 70s caftan labelled: Josefa - Made in Mexico

Another Mexican dress with the label: Girasof, or Girasol

Plus one of those Squaw dress ensembles labelled: Alpha Sportswear, Tucson, Arizona
<img src=http://home.cogeco.ca/~knorman1/a041.jpg>

And a Bill Atkinson sundress from the early 60s

l have Girasol dresses that l wore in 70's, some with much detail...my mother knows about his maker..l'm not sure if she knew her as she knew afew mexican fabric and dress designers from our time there living with our grandparents....

l shall email her and see what she can recall.

Hey Jonathan! I've sold that exact Bill Atkinson in the last year. It has an odd wrap skirt, right? I think it probably came with matching hot pants, but I couldn't varify that. He's on the label resource.

Girasol makes sense - it means "sunflower". I don't know anything about the company, though.

Yes, it is an odd wrap skirt on the Bill Atkinson. I knew the name sounded familiar -- probably because I have seen his name on our label resource! This came from a different source than the ENglish labelled dresses. I got this from the woman who wore it and she actually kept little note cards in the pockets of most of the dresses with the dates she bought the dresses, as well as where! This was one of the few dresses that didn't have a card. The woman had worked as a buyer for Eaton's department store and she often got samples from manufacturers and designers. She worked for them from 1955 to 1978.

Girasol - I has a 3 pc early 60s black cotton set - shell top, capri pants and box jacket. All embroidered in reds, yellow and orange. Very nice ly done. My grandmother bought in Mexico, mosy likely in the very early 60s.

hi jonathan, here is my mum's reply..

'Hi Saz,God yes. Girasol. That lovely dress of many colours, the blue circular dress, cotton trousers and tops, lovely. There was a shop in Cuernavaca called Girasol and also one in the Zona Rosa, the Rodeo Drive of Mexico City. Very popular with visitors and quite pricey...mexican clothes and colours with a twist. Wish I still had them as they were, or at least a lot of them were, one size fits all. I have been too generous with my clothes over the years. Mind you, we are talking about the seventies, eighties and nineties, didn't go looking to buy last time I was there.So who knows if they are still there. I suppose you have googled?' ( Annie Fabre - my mum)

btw Girasol means sunflower AND also a type of mineral!

i'm not familiar w/any of those labels, but #2 is ELEGANT for that sort of dress, isn't it! and #4 is just plain spring time sweet!
