Paper Dolls

Oh my. The Edmonds Museum in Washington state is having an exhibit called "Paper People." It makes me feel like an antique. I am 63-years-old and remember the pleasure of playing with paper dolls, changing their outfits, etc.

I wonder what it means that children are now equally absorbed with their electronic handheld games.

That sounds so enjoyable, this exhibit! And that is food for thought, as you say. I was in a Best Buy store last night, and I just couldn't take it. Zombified children and adults, glued to a barrage of electronics.

I'm still playing the old-fashioned way, Amanda.

Yes, the center one is reversed, becuase I liked the effect in the photo. :)

Oh, those are all marvelous! That exhibit sounds like so much fun...

I never played with paper dolls. I was doll-deprived in general, come to think of it (one Chatty Cathy and 2 Barbies total through my entire childhood, and one of the Barbies was a freebie from a company milestone picnic), which may explain why I love mannequins so much as an adult?

Anyway, here's my contribution; I found this inside the pages of a vintage King Arthur book I found at an estate sale:

Those are all wonderful. Makes me want to cut them out - and play with them. I will scan mine later. I have several paper doll books - purchased as an adult. I not only played with paper dolls as a child, I designed and made clothes for them!

I scanned some images from my paper doll books. They are in "uncut" condition although living in Hawaii for so many years some of them have a little bit of foxing. Here's a sample from the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis book:

The images are really large. Click to see them full screen and scroll to see everything.
