Sometimes, but should also be considered alongside fabric, fibre and the garment construction too. This piece says late 1970s to 1980's to me from what info I have.
The fabric constitution would definitely help, i'm also seeing 90's in the pattern but a lot of patterns have been reintroduced from former periods. If it's a mesh stretch nylon (a la gaultier) it could certainly indicate more 90s.
Do you have fabric composition? or a full pic of the item? Labels? etc
I was thinking that too .. also the fabric reminds me of a late 40s/early 50s dress made of waffle fabric; however, I'm unsure of the actual dress - what era is this from do you think?
Ok, I have the dress now - here it is on the mannequin. The zipper is broken hence the clip on the side. I hope the photos are detailed enough - they seem to have lost some quality uploading them on here. I did the burn test and the fabric is natural - cotton most likely.
