PATTERN: Vogue Couturier #204

I'm looking for an early 1960s pattern from Vogue - Couturier #204 by John Cavanaugh. It makes a wedding or party dress with a short fur-trimmed jacket. See the pattern here: Vogue 204

I need it in size 16 or 18 (36" or 38" bust).

Thanks!
Laura

That is beautiful! I don't...maybe Lizzie might.

Keep checking this thread the next few days..you never know what will turn up

I fell in love with this pattern last year. I bought a size 12 off of eBay, and it turned out to be missing half the pattern. I got lucky, and a few weeks later a size 14 was listed on eBay by a different seller. Now I'm glad I bought it, because I haven't been able to find another copy of it since.

I'd like to make the shorter version to wear this spring. Take a look at the back view; it has a very interesting side-back button closure that isn't visible on the pattern cover.

You should check out Fuzzie Lizzies' Babylon Mall site - she has a ton of patterns, and I know she has a lot of Vogue patterns , because I sent them to her!

You have some gorgeous patterns. Those wedding patterns make me want to have another wedding.

If you've got this pattern in a 14, it would be fairly simple to have it professionally graded up to a 16 or 18, as that is only 1-2 sizes. Its when you try to grade a 4 up to a 16 that you can get into trouble. A professional patternmaker or seamstress should be able to do that for you. Its a wonderful wedding gown!

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! Fuzzylizzie didn't have it. I check all my resources (vintagemartini.com, vintagecat.com, and bluegardenia.com, among others) regularly, and none of them have had it so far. I think it's just going to be a matter of luck.

I know the pattern could be graded up, I just prefer to buy it in a larger size. I don't have the time to grade it myself, and my imagination runs wild when I think of how much it would cost to pay someone else to grade it. Am I being silly?

I've looked also through all the patterns I haven't had a chance to list yet, but I'm sorry to say I don't have it.

And no, you aren't being silly. I'd view the problem in the same way. I've been looking for a particular Valentino pattern in a particular size for months now, and I won't rest until it turns up in MY size!

Do you know about The Vintage Pattern Lending Library?

It's just what the title says it is, an on-line library of vintage patterns that you can actually borrow.

The Vintage Pattern Lending Library

May be a great resource to add to our links page.

Laura has a fantastic pattern lending site of her own that is just wonderful.

I bet now now with multiple pairs of eyes looking for it, it is BOUND to turn up somewhere, somehow. I would also search for vintage wedding dress patterns in general because not everyone puts the pattern number in their listings. there is a photo of the number, but they don't say it in words. Seasoned sellers make sure it is searchable but someone "selling mom's things" etc, might not think about that.

Thanks for the compliment! :)

I've never personally done business with VPLL because I've heard a lot of bad things about them. I would ask around before adding them to the links page to see if any VFG members have had a good experience.

As I said, I don't have any personal experience with VPLL.

And I do hope that I eventually find the pattern in my size! It's got to turn up eventually!

I'm sorry Laura! I didn't even notice your web link!! Duh!!!!!!

Inserting foot in mouth now :o

I would love to add your site to my website's resources page. Do you have a banner you can email me?

Cheers ~ Maureen
