hello!

i am planning on posting this Pauline Trigere coat on Ebay and need help dating and pricing it. I've seen Pauline Trigere items ranging from about 200 to 2000 dollars, so I really don't know where to begin. I also don't know what the material is, so maybe someone who is familiar with pauline trigere items could help me out.

thanks so much.

thanks for the reply.

the condition is really good, not a stain or a mark besides the missing button.

the label sits in the usual spot behind the neck. the stitching holding it on is coming off on one side, though.

thanks for the link, that was great. i'm attaching the illustration that matches the coat most closely. however, on my coat, there is only one outer button and one inner button and the coat seems to have more volume.

the date is from fall 1963 - perhaps this can help someone else determine pricing?

what does the button look like? front and back.

trigere is one of the designers who's notoriously difficult to date because she didn't follow the trends of the day. so you really have to look closely for very small clues.

the price range on trigere is wider than $200-$2000. you can find quite a few lower than $200.

thanks for the replies!

@msgrossmyer - i also saw the 1959 illustration. i've attached the image for others to see.

@Catbooks1940s re:button - it doesn't have any distinguishing features. it's black, solid and shiny on the front and the back looks like a standard button. sorry i couldn't be more descriptive. if it is very important to dating i can snap some pictures.

re:pricing - i guess that was just wishful thinking. most of the items i saw on ebay were 200+ but i did see a 1980's coat for about 60 on etsy.

thanks again.

It looks like double face wool. I had one of her suits in the double face and it was 1980s. This is earlier. She loved capes and cape collars and used them for years and years. The font on this label looks like the 60s or earlier one with the dots on the i's rather than dashes.

Trigere had a long career and was a prolific designer, so prices vary a great deal . Many prices on the internet for her works are overly optimistic. I suggest you search completed auctions to see what actually sold and the price. And how many items went unsold. I love her work, but some Trigeres can be a hard sell these days.
