Pendleton hand tailored help!

Hi all!
I came across this wool cape today(forgive the wrinkles) and I was wondering about the Pendleton "Hand Tailored" labels. I understand that Pendleton was handing out labels in the 50's and 60's with a purchase of fabric to sew in the garments, does anyone have a date on when they started? The cape is so "un-pedlelton" in color! Sort of feels like a WW2 nurse cape uniform.

Lovely charcoal wool, lined in a lighter almost brushed cotton, tab collar, silver-tone buttons.

Obviously hand tailored, the workmanship is slightly off.

Any help appreciated!
Thanks!
Carla

All I can say is it reminds me very much of the 60's/70's capes and if it were here in the UK I'd hazard a guess to say it could have been part of a school (or other) uniform, although that's probably not likely at all in any other country!
I can definetly see the nursing reference.

I don't know when they started selling the fabric with the labels, but you can still buy the yardage today.

The label is interesting. There is no Woolmark, which Pendleton usually used after 1964. Of course, the labels could have been in stock for years at the fabric store. Also, you don't usually see that "R" after the Pendleton name until later, like the 1970s. So it is a puzzle.

It does look a lot like a nurses cape. Maybe someone copied an old one.

The earliest references I found to the hand-tailored label is 1959 and although I was not looking specifically for the latest date, I saw a 1977 ad for the label when you buy Pendelton woolens. I also saw THIS 1959 snippet, which was linked to from the hit below. I wondered if the new sales campaign to which they refer (but I can't read more about) was the label with purchase of their yardage.
